2-WHAT IS LIFE LIKE WITH A DISABILITY?

We all deserve the chance to do our best.

Disabled people may need some extra help.

Help means  respect, patience, encouragement, understanding and caring. We can’t always prevent people from being disabled, but we can make sure that disabled people have the same opportunites as everyone else.

Imagine trying to move around if your legs didn’t work or to communicate if you couldn’t hear or see clearly.

Children who are disabled are just like everyone else except that some parts of their bodies do not work very well. Disabled children can lead normal full wonderful lives -as long as they receive the right kind of support.

The biggest problem that disabled children face is when people do not understand their needs.

Letting disabled children speak and listening to what they have to say   are the best ways to help them.

A disability can be many things: It can be:

- Physical- a difficulty with part of the body

- Mental- some disabilities make it hard to think

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

-Always be patient and understanding with people who may need extra help.

-Volunteer to help someone with a disability.

Activities:

a)      Underline 5 words that you like

b)      In pairs share the words and select two

c)      In fours we share the words and select two.
