A POISON TREE by Willialm Blake
A Poison Tree
The speaker describes how when they were angry with a friend, they talked to their friend about the issue which helped them to overcome their anger. However, the speaker was unable to do the same with an enemy and this leads to developing resentment and an even stronger degree of hatred. An
Eventually the anger blossoms into a poisoned fruit, the enemy eats the fruit and dies and the speaker seems to be glad of this. However, there is also a sense that they see the destructiveness of what has occurred. As the first lines acknowledge, we can easily overcome our anger if we communicate it properly.

THE ROSE THAT GREW FROM CONCRETE
Tupac Shakur- The Rose That Grew From Concrete
Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong
It learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.
Analysis (ai): This poem is a metaphor for resilience and determination. It compares the cracked concrete of an urban environment to the challenges faced by marginalized individuals. The rose represents hope and beauty emerging from adversity, defying limitations and societal expectations.
Like other works by Tupac Shakur, the poem explores themes of social injustice, poverty, and the power of personal agency. It reflects the harsh realities of life in marginalized communities during the 1990s, where violence and oppression were prevalent. However, the poem also offers a message of hope and resilience, encouraging individuals to persevere despite the challenges they face.

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
Christmas Poems
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
…So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow.
But the sound wasn't sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Whoville! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?"
"It came with out ribbons! It came without tags!"
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store."
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”…
Listen to the story
1-ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:
1- Why do you think the Grinch hated Christmas so much?
2- Think of different words that can be used to describe the Grinch.
2- Why do you think the Whos still celebrated their Christmas after the Grinch had stolen their presents and food?
3-Why do you think the Grinch changed his mind and brought back the food and toys to the village?
4-What message is Dr Seuss bringing us through this story?
2-WRITE A CHRISTMAS CARD INSPIRED IN THIS STORY:
Think of the final message and copy what you consider to be the most important message in the book.
